The Home Office has issued revised Scrap Metal Dealers Act guidance for local authorities. The revised guidance was issued yesterday, May 20th.

The Home Office has issued an amended version of its “Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 Supplementary guidance” document.
Amendments have been made to paragraph 5.4.

The Environment Agency (EA) has produced a guidance note aimed at helping local authorities in carrying out the registration process.

The Home Office has published supplementary guidance on the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.

The Home Office has today issued its statutory guidance for local authorities for determining suitability to hold a scrap metal dealer’s licence.SMDA13 Statutory Guidance Issued
The LGA has produced licence templates for the new scrap metal dealer’s licences. Both templates outline the basic statutory information that must be contained on the licence.
Some local authorities may choose to adopt the templates in their current form or may use them as a basis from which to develop their own.
The Home Office's guidance on setting fees for the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act has been published today. Licensing Authorities must have regard to the guidance when setting their fees.

The necessary commencement order for the new the Scrap Metal Dealers Act has been published.
The commencement order sets out a time table of the commencement of different sections of the new Act and the transitional arrangements.
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 Commencement Order Published
There has been official confirmation from the Home Office that the commencement order for the new Act has been signed by the Minister. The order (SI 2013 No.1966 (C.83)) is expected to be published tomorrow.

The LGA has today produced a guide to implementing the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. This week Licensing Resources reported that the transitional arrangements for the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 will permit currently registered scrap metal dealers to be issued with a temporary licence if they apply to their local authority before the 31st of August.No temporary scrap metal dealers licences - LGA

The Scrap Metal Dealers Bill received Royal Assent on the 28th of February 2013.
The Private Members' Bill had its third reading in the House of Lords on the 12th of February 2013. No amendments were made and it was confirmed yesterday that the Bill received Royal Assent to become an Act.
No commencement date has been set.
